THE INDIE FILMMAKERS LAB 2019 EDITION | The Indie Filmmakers Lab (now formally known as CineLab) is a two week filmmaking program offered by The Cinematheque for youth ages 14-19. Its aim is to support the creation of high quality short films. Provided with excellent facilities and professional filmmaking equipment at SFU School for the Contemporary Arts, participants develop technical skills, collaborate with their peers and receive mentorship from dedicated film instructors. The Indie Filmmakers Lab supports motivated youth in taking the first step in their professional filmmaking careers.

In 2018 and 2019, I was the Program Director for Indie Filmmakers Lab. I created and managed artistic curriculum for the Program, managed all of its promotional video and photographic documentation and facilitated the creation of innovative, passionate work from diverse voices. With the help of the Program’s film instructors, I organized and led several creative training sessions including: directing & acting, lighting & cinematography, sound recording, visual storytelling, scriptwriting, editing, sound design, colour correction and much more.

THE CINEMATHEQUE | FILM MENTORSHIP | 2017- 2020 | In collaboration with The Cinematheque, I have designed and facilitated various youth filmmaking workshops on documentary, narrative and experimental filmmaking. During the course of these workshops, I personally mentored participating youth through the creation of several award winning short films. These workshops were generously funded by funding bodies such as BC Arts Council and Creative BC.

Through the Cinematheque, I have collaborated with various organizations to create filmmaking workshops throughout the Lower Mainland, including SFU School of Contemporary Arts, Out On Screen and Vancouver Art Gallery. Several participants of these workshops represent a wide range of multicultural communities, including Indigenous and LGBTQ2AI+ youth. These workshops cover every stage of film production, including scriptwriting, directing, cinematography, sound, and editing.

Since 2017, I have developed over 150 youth created short films through The Cinematheque’s filmmaking workshops.
